Abstract. The article deals with the issues of material flows management in the logistic system based on commodity science approach. The main idea is to implement integration of commodity science and logistics. It is found that specific architectonics of logistics should be linked to trade characteristics of commodities. With an everexpanding range of products and an increase in the volume of counterfeit products, identification of consumer goods in accordance with assortment and classification is becoming particularly urgent. The authors suggest an approach to product identification, which includes the refinement of the identification concept, introduction of the term “identification logistics”, the study of the identification process of the goods in different stages of the supply chain from the producer to the consumer. The concept of identification logistics will help minimize the risks faced by the logistics activities, including risks associated with the product and its properties.
