Inbound Tourism in Bulgaria: Trends, Problems and Prospects

Abstract:

The article considers the key trends in the development of inbound tourism in Bulgaria from 2012 until 2015. A list of the top 10 countries with the highest number of arrivals of visitors to Bulgaria is presented. It is demonstrated that the EU countries provide the majority of inbound tourists to Bulgaria. The authors analyze revenue from international tourism in Bulgaria and highlight the inconsistency of tourism development trends in different time periods. The special attention is paid to the problems hampering the development of tourism in Bulgaria. The paper outlines the opportunities to resolve the existing problems and reviews the prospects of inbound tourism development. The authors give the forecast for the inflow of tourists to Bulgaria until 2030.
