The scientific-analytical journal Upravlenets (The Manager) was founded in 2009 by Ural State University of Economics as an open access scientific peer-reviewed print title devoted to the issues of management and marketing.

The remit of the journal corresponds to the scientific specialty 5.2.6 – Management and 5.2.3 – Regional and industrial economics (subject field – Marketing).

The mission of Upravlenets (The Manager) is to create an effective platform for academic interaction between authors and readers on theory, methodology and practice of management in the field of traditional and modern business models, state and municipal administration, and market development. The research focus is on the development patterns of management theory and practice in Russia.

The principal objective of the periodical is to foster the development of economic science by presenting fundamental and practice-related academic achievements.

The journal publishes papers in both Russian and English.

Upravlenets (The Manager) is selected for coverage in Emerging Sources Citation Index (Web of Science Core Collection). The publications are indexed and abstracted in ESCI beginning with Vol. 9 (1) 2018.

The journal is included in the List of the leading peer-reviewed scientific journals and titles which publish the major research results of dissertations for a doctorate and a candidate degree and Russian Science Citation Index.

The journal pursues the following strategic objectives:

–        to publish the papers complying  with international standards of using research methods and theoretical concepts;

–        to expand the geographical spread of authors and attract foreign scholars;

–        to constantly improve the scientific peer-review system by means of engaging a wide range of scientists in accordance with publications’ themes and the journal’s specialization;

–        to create optimal conditions for communication and interaction between authors and readers in order to encourage scientific discussions and joint research;

–        to produce a high-quality publication as an efficient tool for refining economic knowledge.

The journal publishes scientific articles in the Russian and English languages in the following sections:

The journal does not charge a publication fee.

The journal is issued bimonthly (six times a year).

The process of paper review and publication can take from 4 to 6 months.

Editors have a right to reject submitted materials if:

–        they had already been published in other titles;

–        materials are not relevant to the remit of the journal;

–        articles do not provide any fresh information or are irrelevant to the scientific activity;

–        content of materials is incorrect.
