Abstract: The article addresses the methodological issues of assessing the forest ecosystem as a complex of wood, nonwood and other natural resources. Features and types of forest management are identified through its economic, social and environmental functions. The authors suggest considering public value of forest resources as a comprehensive valuation of tangible and intangible services (resource, ecosystem and social) of forest management.
