Abstract:

Increasing attention paid to spatial economics as a direction of economic thought determines the interest to reconsideration of traditional objects of regional economics through the prism of economic space. The paper generalizes about the theoretical approaches to economic space and proves the necessity to apply them to identify rural settlements of a region as an object of management. As a result of the research, the author characterizes rural settlements from economic-spatial perspective as a specific object in the space of a region. Particularly, the paper states that the territory of the given spatial formation is defined by municipal borders; production process within it involves mainly immobile resources, which form centrifugal character of production; the order of mutual existence of objects and subjects in rural settlements is of predominantly agricultural nature; and semantically this object opposes urban spatial formations.
