Abstract:

The paper monitors the core trends in the development of the Ural macroregion's economic space. It provides an integrated analysis of the dynamics of structural and index indicators. The authors prove that the Ural macroregion, which demonstrates a vast economic potential, suffers from an acute problem of deindustrialization. The key attributes of deindustrialization are a decreasing share of the Ural macroregion in all-Russia indicators; a slowdown in the dynamics of the industrial production; a rising share of mechanical engineering products in the structure of imports; negative shifts in employment of the population, etc. The authors substantiate the necessity of overcoming the abovementioned adverse trends in the development of the Ural macroregion's economic space through implementing new industrial modernization of traditional industries along with the new industrialization – the development of production of the fifth and sixth technological modes.
